Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said he has written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in this regard.
Sisodia, who also holds the finance department charge, said the Delhi government needs around Rs 3,500 crore per month to pay salaries to its employees and to bear office expenses.
"We reviewed the Delhi government's revenue and its min.expenses. It needs around Rs 3500 crore per month to pay salaries and bear office expenses. In the last two months, GST collection was Rs 500 Cr each. Combining that with other sources, the govt has Rs 1735 Crore. We need Rs 7000 Crore, for two months," Sisodia said.
The Deputy chief minister also highlighted that the Central government has not provided any financial assistance under the Disaster Relief Fund to the Delhi government.
"So I have requested central govt to grant us Rs 5000 Crore. I have written to the Union Finance Minister to provide us with this immediate assistance as the Delhi government has not received the fund sanctioned to states under Disaster Relief Fund. Delhi is facing financial issues," he added.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also sought help from the Central Government. "The Central Government is requested to help the people of Delhi in this hour of disaster," he tweeted.
